Chasing After My Wife

THE CAUSE OF DEATH

THE CAUSE OF DEATH

4Their whole day was spent by staying at home. Jillyanna did a lot of things around the house to calm herself. She was still annoyed with him.      0

She planted different kinds of flowers on the garden to distract herself. She didn't really want to get upset over some petty matters but she couldn't help it.

Everytime she remembered the first time she confessed to him, it would make her blood boil. She knew what's love and what's not but because of his rejection, she didn't dare fall in love again.

Who would've thought that she would still fall for him in the end? She was so annoyed that she fell in love to the same person even after a decade!

"I hate you Travis!" she yelled at the top of her lungs even though the man she was yelling at was squatting down beside her.

Travis just laughed at her and continued planting the roses. "I thought you love me."

"You're imagining things again." she snorted and moved away from him. "I hate you."

"It's fine if you hate me as long as I can still sleep beside you."

"Who said you're sleeping with me tonight? Go find a place to sleep. Don't come near me tonight."

He put down the shovel and pot before facing her. "I'm sorry if I rejected you in the past. I must be foolish back then even though I like you even before."

"I told you not to make me recall it! Why are you so hateful?" Jillyanna stood up and kicked him lightly.

Travis liked their simple and natural interactions a lot. He didn't have to pretend in front of her and so was she. They just do whatever they want to do as long as they don't hurt anyone.

"Let's visit our parents?" Travis suggested which vanished her annoyance. She looked at the flowers that her mother loves and nodded her head.

"Let's visit them now. We still have time before the cemetery closes." Jillyanna stated. It's not because she forgot her mother but because she didn't want to tell her that she got herself pregnant by the person who caused her death.

She was still guilty over it and she didn't know what to do. She couldn't blame Travis as well since he was also one of the victims because of some research.

She had told everyone that she had disposed it but she can't bring herself to ruin something that her mother dedicated her life to. She still have the soft copy of that research that everyone's after.

"Alright. Let me finish this first. You can go ahead and clean yourself and get changed. I won't take long." Travis responded to her.

Jillyanna agreed and went inside the house. She had decided that today, in front of their parent's grave, she'll ask him of the things that she wanted to know.

One hour before the cemetery closes, Jillyanna and Travis arrived with the body guards following them from different distances.

Jillyanna brought some freshly cut flowers from the garden and placed them on her mother's and his mother's tomb.

"Let's separate for now. I want to get some alone time with my mother." She told him which Travis obeyed.

They spent ten minutes with their parents before Jillyanna approached him with a faint smile.

"Travis?" Jillyanna called out his name softly. "Can I ask you something?"

"Hn."

"Were you kidnapped before?"

Travis stiffened his back and he felt a little afraid answering her question. He's got a bad feeling as to where this question would lead them.

Still, he preferred to answer her with all honesty. " Yes. I was kidnapped before."

"Did you know why you were kidnapped?"

"I know. I heard them called my parents to hand in a research."

"Was the car accident; really an accident? Or did your mother do something?"

"It wasn't my mother who did something but it wasn't an accident either."

"Why do you know a lot?"

Travis looked at her and Jillyanna didn't waver as well. She stared back at him. "Do you really want to know why?"

"Hn. Before we came here, I wanted to know what exactly happened."

They couldn't move forward if they were still chained to the past. She really wanted to let go her burdens and start over. If things will be solved immediately, she'll be left with the issue involving her father.

Travis let go a heavy sigh before looking up at the darkening sky. "I was kidnapped and held for over a week. All their conversations were still etched in my mind. I was scared at that time. I was scared when I heard them that they'd kidnap you, too if my mother won't follow them. She couldn't betray your mother and she couldn't sacrifice you and me for just a research."

"Why didn't she tell my mother?" Jillyanna asked.

"My mother was being monitored. There was a nurse who would always stay beside her to keep her in check. One day, they told my mother to let auntie Elizabeth drive our car and pick you up from school. My mother didn't want to but they slashed my back with a knife."

"What? They wounded you?" She asked in surprise and guilt was spreading over her face.

"You might've not notice it since I undergo surgery and it's on my back which you haven't seen yet." He added to tease her. "Anyway, after hearing my scream, my mom was scared silly and didn't think straight. She let Auntie Elizabeth drive the car to pick you up. She didn't know that the car was rigged."

"Why did your mother committed suicide?" She knew it was a sensitive topic but she needed to know.

"Because after a year of your mother's death, she received a message."

"What did it say?" Her anxiousness was lacing her voice.

"I tested you if you're my daughter's true friend. I didn't know you'd just give up her life from a mere threat - that's what it said."

All the remaining colors on her face were drained after hearing such horror. All this while, she was right all along. It was her mother's family who caused her death.
