Mark of the destiny

What does he mean?

What does he mean?

0"Look, what they are saying? It's all because of your teaching. I'm glad you took me as your student. Your only student in five years." Xeumo gloated, pretending to be closer to Gong Li.      3

The interns giggled, seeing them standing intimately and whispered among each other, much to Xeumo's excitement.

"Mam, treat! We are sure even Zz would be willing to work with you now. After all, he only works with the best."

Xeumo's face strained, "No, I'm not ready yet. I'll apply after practicing for a few more years. You all know, once rejected by Zz, one has to wait for ten years. But I'm happy that Dr. Gong works with him."

That was another lie brought up by the hospital. Gong Li was already rejected three years back, when Ling Gilbert had applied on Zz's portal on behalf of Gong Li, asking to work along.

"But I won't disappoint you. Party is on me!" Xeumo's smile came back. "Gong Li, tonight at Jo's bar. Sounds good?"

Tired, he pulled his hands out from her grip, "I'm busy." And walked away….

Xeumo could only gulp down the bitter insult in front of everyone.

Just as he left, someone walks out from the shadows, his scrutinizing gaze fixed at Gong Li's back as he holds the phone against his ear. "Just now Gong Li had spoken to Zhao Suyin about...…"

*******

Suyin sat still, unable to speak, totally stunned as Gong Li's words bounced around inside her skull.

"Suyin, " Her hands were icy-cold, shaking. Wang Shi cupped her face, waking her up gently. "Look at me."

"W-What does he m-mean 'it can give a different direction to the reason behind my baby's death'? Is there something that I don't know? Didn't he die on the operating table because of heart failure? WHAT DOES HE MEAN? WHAT DOES HE.... mean?"

Her eyes eagerly looked into Wang Shi's as if she would really get an answer from him. She was cold with fury, just the thought there could be another reason behind her baby's death gnawed at her. She clutched his collar in her fist, "Tell me what does he mean…. Please. Is he fooling me by taking my baby's name?"

"Shhh…. We'll find out. I promise we'll find out." He scrambled to his feet and ran to grab a glass of water. "Drink it, Suyin."

She stared at him, he was as restless, upset, and disturbed just like her. He ran a hand over his face and crouched down in front of her before bringing the glass of water to her lips. "Take a sip…. Love."

He laid a hand at her arm and left it there. She was glad he was there for her, otherwise, she might have had lost her senses thinking about it.

She took deep breaths, trying to calm herself. Though stormy inside, she could still hold herself. Maybe because she doesn't believe in Gong Li's words a hundred percent. There was a high possibility this was one of his tricks to convince her to help him.

"I-I…."

He placed the glass on the floor and cupped her face, "Listen to me. We will find out about this, together. I am with you."

Suyin searched his face, "Do you believe him?"

"I do." It took him a breath to respond. "Things are weird when it comes to your past. Did you check your baby's medical files? Did you confirm everything by yourself?"

"Not instantly, but I checked them later. As soon as I return my first instinct was to check on my baby. He was lying lifeless in the room, wrapped in bandages." Suyin swallowed past a dry throat, her eyes watered as her baby's lifeless face flashed. "The night before my VIVA, he was in respiratory distress, unable to contract his diaphragm and chest muscles. His lips turned blue, and stats started to fall. So, I intubated him."

"What the hell, Suyin," he heaved in anger. "Why did you intubate him yourself? Where were the doctors? Weren't you under the ban? Being a mother…." He paused.

Intubating her own child for a mother! That's cruel!

And he could relate to her pain. He had operated on Honey before!

"I WAS under the ban." She replied, fidgeting with her hands. "But…. nobody came to help when I yelled for doctors. They were deliberately taking their own time, punishing me for Gong Li's baby and wife's death. What could I have done in that situation? Should I have just left him struggling for oxygen and wait for the doctors? They came after three minutes! Three bloody minutes! Had I not done that, he….."

Something emotional passed between them when he moved to sit beside her and hold her in his embrace. His chin came to rest at the crown of her head.

"When you knew things were like this in that hospital, why didn't you shift him somewhere else?" he asked.

"At first I didn't because of the financial constraints. In Ace hospital, he was receiving free treatment because of the employee contract." Suyin said.

After Qi Wren snatched their business and property, her family was left to struggle with finances. Whatever money Zeng used to send from overseas, went for daily expenses, payment of the debt, rent, and a major portion eaten up by her evil aunt.

Even Si Han had to hold back to reason with Suyin's aunt as this would have made her target Suyin more. With a small child, no stable job, emotional pressure, and lack of family support, Suyin was already very vulnerable. Si Han didn't want to add on to her problems.

If Zeng was taking care of family expenses, Suyin made sure to be independent and pay for her and the baby's expenses on her own; which she did until the last day and begged no one.

"You didn't ask for money from your brother?" Wang Shi asked hoarsely. The information Daiyu had shared with him, he knew she has an elder brother.
