"Shh…. Drink some water, Gilbert. I'm not interested in murderers. At least not now!" Suyin flicked the coaster of the glass kept at Gilbert's desk. "Give me the patient files, that's it. We can do this easy way or you can always make it difficult. Either way, I'm going to win."
Gilbert's eyes never left her; the ferocity of her words was impossible to ignore. Though she doesn't have any proof against him and Ling Xeumo, the fact she's a talented doctor and was falsely framed remains unchanged. Even today she can challenge his daughter in medicine and surely win.
Years back…..
After that night, Suyin failed to appear for her last exam. Not only losing the opportunity to work with Wang Shi but was forced to drop a year and continue working as a resident under Dr Gong Li.
During this time, she gave birth to Qi Wren's baby while working as a resident. It was one of those days when she left her two-month-old feverish baby under her mother's care and came to the hospital as usual to fulfil her duties and earn money.
Though she had asked the hospital to keep her day free as she had to sit for the final exam in the afternoon, they called her to scrub in with Dr Gilbert and Xeumo on an emergency surgery on Dr Gong Li's three-year-old son.
Since it was her mentor's son, she didn't delay a second and went to help the child, giving instructions to her mother to call her if her baby's fever didn't come down within four hours.
Dr. Gong Li's son had consumed five spherical magnets while playing and was already under observation for the last days where the pediatrician tried to let the magnets pass through stool and prevent the kid from any complicated procedure.
However, on the third day, the child's condition turned serious, as the magnets got stuck in his intestines and started eroding.
The scans showed that three of the pieces had come together and reached the lower quadrant of intestines, but the remaining two had sandwiched the wall of the intestine between them, causing the perforation and infection.
As the laxatives and endoscopy failed, he was rushed to the OT for emergency laparoscopy to get the magnets out. Gong Li was busy with another patient, and since it was his own son, he could not be the part of the surgery at any time.
Though Gilbert successfully removed the three magnets but failed to get the remaining two, sandwiching the intestine. Amidst the surgery, his intestine ruptured and Gilbert had to open him.
After getting the magnets out, Gilbert let Xeumo, his precious daughter, finish the rest of the procedure, ignoring Suyin. Not like she mind it!
The surgery seemed successful, and Suyin left to sit for the last exam again.
But…..
During her absence, Gong Li's son never woke up from anaesthesia and eventually died in his sleep within hours. The autopsy showed internal bleeding because of the ruptured aortic wall caused during the surgery.
A doctor's fault! Carelessness!
As Gilbert and his daughter did everything, they should have been called for the investigation and put on trial. But to save his daughter's career and his ass, he sacrificed Suyin. Even the staff present in the OT took Suyin's name. Bribed!
On the other side, Suyin was done with her exam in record time and rushed back to see her baby when Si Han informed her that her baby's fever had worsened and she had brought him to the hospital.
Upon reaching, she came to know about Gong Li's son and the rumour about her being responsible to kill the child. But that was least of her concerns, she only wanted to take care of her baby.
A few days later, Gong Li's wife committed suicide. She never came out of the shock of her son's death and held herself guilty. In her suicide note, she cursed Suyin to suffer the same fate.
Everyone turned deaf to her constant denial and pleas, eventually being declared guilty in front of the management and Gong Li's eyes as she had nothing to support her statement.
During this time, she received a notice from the medical council that someone had tipped them of her bribing the invigilator to exchange her answer sheets. Upon investigation, the invigilator had accepted his crime. As a benefit of the doubt, she has to appear before the medical council to explain and sit for Viva within two days.
At that time her priority was her sick baby, whose condition was worsening with each passing day. But Si Han pushed her to appear before the medical council and sit for the viva while she would take care of the baby.
On the way, Suyin received the most devastating news that her baby died and none of the senior doctors was present to help him. He was left alone.....
Was this a punishment for her?
What was her baby's fault?
Did everyone ignore their duty to save human life and let her innocent baby die?
Where goes their hippocratic oath?
In front of the medical council Suyin just sat there like a lifeless doll, didn't answer any of the questions asked in the viva, and left abruptly with words, "I cheated. I've always been. I don't deserve to be a doctor. No one does."
Apparently, Gong Li's son's case was used against her in front of the medical council to prove how incapable she was and she cheated in her exams.

Gilbert clenched his fist tight, fuming mad. "I'll ask the admin to give you the files."
"That was easy!" She pulled out her cell phone, the call was picked on the first ring, "Come in."
Ling Gilbert frowned. The next moment Chen Wenwei walked into his office, rocking on her heels, adding onto the suppressed atmosphere. It was a hard time for the poor man to decide which one was scarier.
"Prosecutor Chen," he stood up, extended his hand towards the dreadful lawyer as she nodded once at Suyin and came to sit opposite him. Instead of shaking hands, Wenwei placed the document on it.
"It's obligatory of the hospital, including you and your staff to cooperate with the ministry. My client Zhao Suyin is in charge of the case and has the right to call anyone for interrogation. None of you will hinder the investigation process, otherwise, it will be considered as condemn of the court order. Am I clear?"
Gilbert shifted his gaze to Suyin, who was leaning against the bookshelf with hands crossed. All this while she didn't sit even once. A sign of disrespect. "You were already prepared."
"The people here when making up their ledger balance the mistakes with lies, murders with wealth, and immorality with hypocrisy. This place hosts people, brutal than practical! Do you think I'll take a chance at such a place?" the hatred was clear in her eyes, flowing out through words.
Subconsciously Gilbert looked at Chen Wenwei, clenching his fists. "Miss Zhao, pay attention to your words. This is a reputable hospitable."
"Yeah, I know how reputable it is and how the REPUTATION is built. I can see a big fat, walking- talking reputation sitting at the position of chief." Suyin touched Chen Wenwei's arm, "Let's go. We have to talk to the reputed doctors of this reputable hospital to confirm the authenticity of their reputation."
Chen Wenwei stifled her laughter seeing Ling Gilbert's sour face and went out with Suyin.
